Bio
Ray Lassonde has been a member of the Strings and Things music instruction program for 23 years. In addition to Strings and Things, Ray has instructed students of Laconia Christian School in band instruments, as well as elementary recorder, and individual and group lessons for voice, piano, guitar, bass and drums and the Mont Blanc Academy (a Montessori school) in Hooksett. At MBA, Ray taught music at the elementary and middle school levels. Ray’s students have enjoyed placement in All-State Jazz orchestras and ensembles as well as placement in SYMS (Summer Youth Music School) Jazz orchestras and ensembles held at the University of New Hampshire. Of the four annual positions at each of these prestigious competitive programs, two of the All State bass positions in 2004 were occupied by Ray’s students and two at SYMS in 2007. One of these 2007 students was also awarded the Clark Terry UNH Jazz Festival citation for Outstanding Musicianship.
Ray is a professional performing musician and has been established in the New England area for over twenty years. Although Ray is a multi-instrumentalist, his principal instrument is Bass (electric and upright). He has taken the stage using these instruments with established entertainers: Folk artists—Steve Schuch and Lester Hersh; Jazz artists—Paul Borgelais, Rich Margolis, and Craig Fahey; Blues artists—Shirley Lewis (Boston’s first lady of blues) and Boston’s Evan Goodrow; Country artists—Tom Shephard (composer of the popular song, Private Malone) and Bobby-Lynn Coty; Big Band—The Freese Brothers. A sample list of bands Ray has performed with includes: Funk band—Rhythm Crazies. Rock bands—Hurricane Alley and Baker Street; Funk-Rock and R&B—Fat Back.
Ray teaches the following instruments: Guitar, Bass (electric and upright), piano, first and second year trumpet, clarinet, trombone, and alto sax. Students interested in band instruments will be instructed using your school district’s standard method books. In addition, we will use books which encourage individual interest. Guitar and bass students will be instructed using the most current and contemporary methods - age and experience appropriate. Ray’s goal is to offer a program, which encourages individual interest.
Ray also instructs a college preparatory program for bass. A number of his students have gone on to college to either major or minor in music.
