Nancy Heard
Piano Instructor
Nancy Heard has taught traditional piano lessons since she was 14 years old. She studied Classical Music Performance at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. As an adult, watching her own three children take Suzuki violin, viola and cello lessons and classes deepened her appreciation of how music can enrich a person's life. She trained as a Suzuki piano teacher with Robert Fraley in New London, NH in the 1990s and was certified through all seven of the Suzuki Piano Books. She taught Suzuki piano lessons and classes at Creative. Arts in Reading Massachusetts. She returned to school at Plymouth State University to get a degree. in Music Education. She became a classroom music teacher in 2000, teaching at Boscawen Elementary School and Merrimack Valley Middle School. For the past eight years she has taught a combination of classroom music and private piano lessons at the Shaker Road School. She has continued with both traditional and Suzuki piano teaching through those years. She has enjoyed teaching lessons and classes to very young students (as young as 4) all the way through to students in their 90s. She loves all ages and is looking forward to teaching at Strings and Things in 2010!
As a performer, Nancy sang and played in "In Their Right Minds," a left-handed Irish trio in the Reading MA area, performing for the Highland Games at Loon Mountain and various other venues. She was a ballet accompanist for many years in her home town of Missoula Montana and at Theaterdanceplace and The Children's Theatre in Minneapolis MN. She accompanied Suzuki voilin and cello groups for the many years that her children were studying those instruments. She currently accompanies the Bow Mills United Methodist Church Choir.
